Round 1 – May 10th – Jaw Point day race:

Jaw Point towers over the east side of Taku Inlet and marks the half way point of this exciting new day race which will take the fleet past some of the most beautiful landscapes in the area. There is the potential to sail through the challenging waters and winds for which the Taku Inlet is known.

Round 2 – Memorial Day Weekend – Taku Harbor Rendezvous:

Memorial Day weekend gives our skippers a chance to rack up 3 races early in the season. The Taku Harbor Rendezvous is a very important weekend for the Juneau Cup Challenge. Special prizes for the first race of the season will be given during the Saturday night gathering on the docks of Taku Harbor. This round starts with a race from Juneau to Taku Harbor on Saturday. This leg is very challenging and has a long history in the Juneau sailing community and is well attended and hotly contested. Leg 2 is on Sunday from Taku Harbor to Twin Points and back, gives our hard core sailors a chance to gather new crew off the docks of Taku Harbor and take on the challengers in the big waters of Stevens Passage. The fleet returns from Taku Harbor to Juneau on Monday.

Round 3 – June 14,15 – Juneau and Auke Bay races:

The third round consists of a day race from Juneau to Auke Bay and a second day race on Sunday from Auke Bay up Favorite Channel and back. This is another new race for the Juneau Cup Challenge and will present some new obstacles and interesting coarse tactics. Sailors looking for a warm up to the Spirit of Adventure and the Around Admiralty Cup can use this race to sharpen up their crews and checking out any recent modifications to their boats.

Round 4 – July 26,27 – Admiralty Cove Rendezvous:

Round four is what has become known as the Admiralty Cove Rendezvous. Leg one will begin in Juneau and end at Admiralty Cove. The second leg reverses the course. Barbeques and fun gathering on the beach are the tradition for this race.

Round 5 – Aug 2, 3 – Funter Bay Rendezvous:

The fifth round will be our most Westerly race, Auke Bay to Funter Bay returning with the second leg back to Auke Bay. Another great dock party in Funter Bay has become the center piece this weekend of some of the best sailing in the series. Lynn Channel has consistently delivered great wind that makes this a fast round with leads changing frequently.

Round 6 – August 16 – Grand Island Day Race:

A day race gives sailors a chance to participate in another long time tradition, the Grand Island race. Last years breezy conditions turned back a good percentage of the fleet, but for those who pushed through the 20-25 knot head winds were rewarded with an exciting and fast return leg.

Round 7 – Labor Day Weekend – Taku Harbor Rendezvous

The final round of the season on Labor Day weekend will be a repeat of round one another Taku Harbor Rendezvous. Dock festivities and tall stories of the season will fill the lay over day with the final leg of the season retuning the fleet to Juneau.

The Taku Harbor Gathering!
